Welcome

Welcome to my Portfolio page

My name is Heather Johnson and I am a student at Norwich University College of the Arts. I have been creating art for as long as I can remember however I have been creating art as a serious artist for about 4 years since I first used oil paints. My first oil painting was exhibited in London at the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Children’s Exhibition on the recommendation of my A-Level tutor. This was a huge honour and a huge boost to my confidence and desire to be an artist professionally. Since then I have been continuing to develop this work which found popularity at a very early stage.

My main interests for my art are subjects of nature, particularly the small details of the natural world. My photography often uses macro techniques to get extreme close-ups of objects with very short depth of fields. This theme is reflected in my painting and my recent works have included developing techniques for showing an out of focus area with paint. Although my photography currently directly informs my painting, I see photography as a separate art form in its own right and will continue this practice as time goes on. However, one of my ongoing aims is to improve my technical skill at drawing without reference.

The art which inspires, influences and informs my work varies widely. Because of my in depth knowledge of photography, I include certain photographers when listing artists I like. These include Adam Kufeld, Karl Blossfelt and Dave McKean, all for very different reasons. In terms of traditional artists, I am particularly inspired by Brian Froud, Andy Goldsworthy, Don Eddy and Turner, again all for very different reasons. I tend to think that the work of other artists does not directly influence my work as such, more that it influences my personality which my work then reflects. I have never set out to create art that is like that of another artist, I create art that reflects me personally, and any links with other previous or current artists are not of the greatest importance.

I hope you enjoy looking through my gallery and please feel free to contact me if you would like any more information on what I do. I am always pleased to recieve feedback. I am open to commssions for work, providing I can work around my degree. Feel free to contact me on the email address bellow.

To fellow Deviants, please head over to my main account at I-am-coma-white and leave me any constructive critism or faves on that account. Each deviation on this account will have a direct link to my main account for you to follow. I'd like to keep all the faves in one place. Thanks!
